Artist Holyoke

After putting his Minneapolis-based folk act on hiatus for a year for a job that moved him to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Joshua Pederson of Holyoke has returned to the Twin Cities to continue making music. The band’s style of violin-fed, vocally heavy indie folk is strengthened by Pederson’s evolving knack for songwriting. Purportedly, there’s a ukulele in the mix somewhere in the handful of songs that Holyoke has recorded and released on MySpace and Bandcamp. But Pederson’s voice and lyrics are the dominant force. In a lot of ways, Holyoke is making coffee-shop singer-songwriter music, but there’s something there—something that has the potential to grow and mature.
