After coming up as a resolutely English part of the universe surrounding the New York dance-rock label DFA, Hot Chip has entered its own realm—where geek chic interlocks with funky sensuousness and emotive braggadocio. The group’s 2008 album, Made In The Dark, hit heavier on the kind of gloppy, higher-energy funk that Hot Chip plays live, and this year's One Life Stand follows suit even as it introduces a fuller, more naturalistic sound on songs marked by doe-eyed sadness and string-swept drama.
