Hubert Sumlin
Extraordinary blues guitarist Hubert Sumlin has lived a long, full life since he first learned to play on an improvised instrument made of baling wire and nails: He’s recorded with Eric Clapton and Chuck Berry, tutored Stevie Ray Vaughan, and certainly not least, he was the longtime lead guitarist for the great Howlin’ Wolf, with whom he worked from his start in the biz to Wolf’s death in 1976. Now in his 70s, Sumlin has slowed down (and lost a lung to cancer), but thankfully hasn’t stopped. After a recording drought, Sumlin came back with About Them Shoes in 2003, which included guests like Clapton and Keith Richards. He hasn't made an album since, but he remains active on the road.
