Ike Reilly Assassination

Modern radio may not be clamoring for Ike Reilly’s wry, quirky combination of American balladeering and full-on rock, but in the confines of a club, it sounds great. Reilly values spontaneity over slickness, and his sagas of love and loss are filled with heartfelt, humanistic storytelling that earns comparisons with Dylan and Springsteen. In 2009 he released another collection of smart, slightly cynical and witty rock, Hard Luck Stories, which features guestwork from David Lowery of Cracker and country singer Shooter Jennings. This show may be nothing but straight up rock ’n’ roll, but that’s more than enough when Reilly’s involved.
