Artist In The Heights

The musical about New York's Washington Heights comes to Chicago following a win for Best Musical at the 2008 Tony Awards. Telling the story of bodega owner Usnavi and the romantic, economic, and political woes that plague his neighborhood, In The Heights is one of the few original musicals to succeed in the past decade, an admirable feat considering the sheer amount of productions based on existing material that bombard Broadway every year. The high-energy dancing, rapping, and bilingual insanity that made the show a hit on Broadway should translate well to Chicago audiences. (Closes Jan. 3)
