Indie Game: The Movie
Gone are the days where we had to blow into theSuper Mario Bros. game cartridge to get it to play on the Super Nintendo. Video game technology continues to change, as shown in this year’s Indie Game: The Movie, which won a Best Editing award at Sundance. The documentary follows several young, aspiring producers of independent games through their journey, including: Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes as they develop a game about a red square dude saving his girlfriend, Bandage Girl, from Dr. Fetus (Super Meat Boy); Phil Fish developing a game about a happy 2-D critter whose life is turned upside-down after encountering a 3-D hexahedron (Fez); and Jonathan Blow reflecting on his success of developing a hit Xbox Arcade game about a guy saving his princess from a big, bad monster (Braid).
