Indy Bike Polo
With Indy Bike Polo, the ultimate sport of the privileged has been democratized by two wheels, mallets made from ski poles and plastic piping, and a whole bunch of street hockey balls. Two teams of three battle for control of the ball while racing to be the first to score five goals. To play, participants need a bike, obviously, with brakes, end caps on handlebars, and spokes to soften any blows. There’s always the potential for a fall, so bring whatever protective gear you’re comfortable with. (Jock straps are highly recommended.) The league operates three times a week (every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 p.m., and Sunday at noon) in its new home of Arsenal Park, located on 46th Street just north of the State Fairgrounds. The Parks Department has recently resurfaced the court and lined it with wooden walls, but keep the body-checking to a minimum, Raffi.
