Artist Isodynamics

LiquidForm and Memory have made good choices so far in their hip-hop careers. Collectively as Isodynamics, the pair emulates and personalizes styles typified by Bay Area-based Quannum Projects, with soulful samples and socially conscious lyrics that translate well in the Midwest, particularly in Madison. On last year’s Isodynamics II, a good sense of history in conscientious rap comes through on “Respect” featuring some deft cutting on Jeru The Damaja saying, “Women, make sure you’re respected,” but just a few breaths later the guys are complaining about females on the fun, sample-heavy track “A Kick In The Balls,” proving they don’t have to change the world on every song. The new Being And Knowing gets off to a more somber start with “The Basement,” but the thoughtful lyrics prevail once again up and down the album’s impressive 18 tracks.
