Jack White

While Jack White claimed the end of The White Stripes wouldn’t result in some sort of post-breakup collaboration bender, he’s hardly stayed out of the public eye. In just over a year, he’s worked with Stephen Colbert and Insane Clown Posse, and his divorce from model/singer wife Karen Elson received its own liberation party. Not surprisingly, the verdict on his new solo record, Blunderbuss, is that it’s White’s “divorce” record, with many tracks appearing to comment on the end of either that marriage, or his first with Meg White. On the other hand, the “girl” in mention, like always, could be all girls, and merely a lyrical go-to from a man just as interested in musical nods to classic blues, R&B, and folk. Either way, it’s essentially a classicist rock record, with nearly half of the songs matching the excellence of The White Stripes’ best.
