James Pants

James Pants is a beat-tailor who weaves threads of electro boogie into early-’90s rap groove. It all sounds a little like the disco-rock made by the likes of LCD Soundsystem and !!!, but it also shares a lot, in terms of sensibility, with the ideas behind the Peanut Butter Wolf-run label Stones Throw. Which, as the Cinderella story would have it, was where Pants first interned and was eventually signed to by the Wolf himself. Pants’ recent sophomore effort, Seven Seals, is full of funk distractions, promoted by the label as a “cult’s soundtrack.”
