A.V. Club: Best of the Decade

Artist Japanther

  • japanther

NYC’s Japanther celebrates the sort of scuzzy, shambolic, industrial-strength rock beloved by such neo-no-wave acts as Wolf Eyes, using youthful energy to overcome the limitations of Radio Shack-quality gear. The band has released an impressive 17 singles, EPs, and albums since forming in 2001, including 2005’s endearingly abrasive Master Of Pigeons, 2007’s Skuffed Up My Huffy, and 2008’s Tut Tut Now Shake Ya Butt. Japanther’s sets are often brief—35 minutes, tops—but they pummel and scream for all they’re worth.
