The onetime engineering doctoral candidate proudly bills himself as “a clean, clever comedian”—a G-rated, household-friendly option for the inoffensive-inclined. Other observational comedians such as Jerry Seinfeld and Ray Romano may have parlayed this type of accessible amusement into popular sitcoms, but Caldwell is better known for his appearances on the talk shows of David Letterman and Craig Ferguson.
