Jello Biafra And The Guantanamo School Of Medicine

In the realm of inflammatory, politically riled punk rock, there will always be room for Jello Biafra, who celebrated his 50th birthday in 2008 by forming an all-new band with Faith No More's Billy Gould called Jello Biafra And The Guantanamo School Of Medicine, then releasing last year's The Audacity Of Hype on his Alternative Tentacles label. Gould isn't in this touring version, but Ween bassist Andrew Weiss ably fills in the proto-industrial thrum beneath the group's guitar-heavy squalls—which naturally retain some of the Dead Kennedys' anxious, spy-movie twang. The topics are familiar, too: The government is both Orwellian in its omnipotence and laughably corrupt; Republicans and other morality watchdogs are hypocritical pieces of shit; and despite Obama-era optimism, there's still a class war a-brewin' in the streets.
