Jenny Lewis
For her solo debut—2006’s Rabbit Fur Coat, recorded with The Watson Twins—Rilo Kiley singer Jenny Lewis crafted an introspective, confessional singer-songwriter record that skewed a little bit folk, a little bit country, a little bit gospel, and a good deal removed from the space most of her indie-rock contemporaries currently inhabit. Her follow-up, 2008’s Acid Tongue, is an all-star affair, and includes “Carpetbaggers,” her duet with Elvis Costello, not to mention appearances by Zooey Deschanel, M. Ward, and The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson. The album also features Dave Scher of Beachwood Sparks, and Rilo Kiley bandmate Pierre De Reeder, who assisted with Acid Tongue’s artwork.
