Jerry Jeff Walker

Outlaw-country superstar Jerry Jeff Walker has always struck a balance between David Allan Coe’s redneck rhetoric and Jimmy Buffett’s schlock. But any colorful hick songwriter who makes fun of hippies and lauds his mother in the same song is worth a listen. Walker’s endurance should be applauded, too: He wrote the classic “Mr. Bojangles” in 1968, and has released more than two dozen albums since. The last decade’s worth, including a foray into jazz in 2003 called Jerry Jeff Jazz and 2009's download-only Moon Child, have been released by Walker’s own Tried & True Music label.
