Jim Jefferies
The occasional anti-religion or sick-minded zinger that most stand-ups flirt with is only the starting point for Australian-born Jim Jefferies. He even makes George Carlin’s late-career dissections of Christianity sound genteel, going so far as to dismiss the entire concept of heaven: “I don’t care how blissful it is. It’s eternal. You’ll get used to it, and then you’ll be fuckin’ bored.” In addition to all his material about far more uncomfortable subjects, Jefferies has a delightfully disreputable air about him: A fan once punched him onstage in Manchester for no discernible reason. And now he’s drawing flak from Jews as well as Christians for the title of his 2010 stand-up DVD, Alcoholocaust, which follows 2009’s I Swear To God.
