Jimmy Eat World
Nearly a decade after “The Middle” made Jimmy Eat World a platinum-selling band, it’s looking less and less likely that the group will recapture the heights attained by that song. That’s not a knock against its solid, if characteristically hit or miss, work since then. Both 2004’s Futures and 2007’s Chase This Light had moments that ranked among the band’s best, and 2010’s Invented more or less follows suit. Invented finds the band continuing to explore mood, particularly on the title track and “Mixtape,” which shift dynamics over the course of more than six minutes.
