Joan Of Arc
The 2010 reunion of Cap’n Jazz—whose passionate sputtering and cryptic feyness galvanized second-wave emo in the early ’90s—didn’t result in any new music from the band. It did, however, return guitarist Victor Villarreal to the multifaceted, multi-project musical umbrella belonging to frontman Tim Kinsella. Having become a full-time member of Kinsella’s most consistently active post-Cap’n Jazz outlet, Joan Of Arc, Villarreal lends his swift, precise playing to the recently released Life Like LP. It’s a considerably pared-down affair for the band—though anything’s pared-down in comparison with the sprawling lineup assembled for 2009’ s Joan Of Arc Presents: Don’t Mind Control. It’s also the closest thing to a reunited Cap’n Jazz that you’ll hear on record in 2012.
