Artist Joe Purdy

Although Arkansas folker Joe Purdy has been operating independently for a decade, his music has garnered significant mainstream attention over the last few years through exposure on Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, and various movies and commercials. Often only accompanied by a single guitar or banjo, his wavering voice gives honesty to lyrics about love, travel, and a desire for simpler times. The commercial success also sent major labels courting, though he so far has turned down all offers. (Purdy’s website proudly insists “his records are self-released and he likes it that way.”) Instead, the singer utilizes the freedom of his own label to release albums, including two from 2010—4th Of July, and This American.
