Joey Ryan And The Inks breathe a lot of fresh air into their ’60s pop-indebted music, which elevates them to inspired levels beyond simple derivation. Sun-dappled sweets like “Oh, Caroline,” from 2009’s Well, Here We Are Then, build layers of pleasant instrumentation with banjos, soft horns, and even whistling until the listener can’t help but drift away. Ryan’s clear vocals and lilting backing harmonies on standout “Spitting In Tune” set the tone for the back half of a bouncy album filled with well-constructed pop rock in the spirit of ELO and The Beach Boys. The band has just released its latest, Dennis Lane.
