John Nolan
It's been seven years since John Nolan left pop-emo sensation Taking Back Sunday, and while he's happily married and no longer using his last, gasping breath to apologize for bleeding on your shirt, the dude has hardly settled down. Nolan founded Straylight Run after penning a set of songs that didn't fit Taking Back Sunday's "thrash and pine" aesthetic, and his solo debut, Height, comes from a similar source—10 electronically enriched tracks about adjusting to adult life that break from his main gig's piano-driven sound. Though occasionally recalling the digital dabblings of Ben Gibbard and Conor Oberst, songs like the songwriter's lament "Screaming Into The Wind" are clearly the product of an artist several years removed from "Cute Without The 'E' (Cut From The Team)."
