Nashville singer-songwriter John Prine has enjoyed an amazing four-decade career, releasing countless studio albums and launching his own highly regarded label, Oh Boy Records. Prine’s most recent studio album—the 2007 Mac Wiseman team-up, Standard Songs For Average People—is a typically relaxed and charming effort from a man who’s been on a nice, extended comeback ever since being diagnosed with cancer in 1998. Along with the subtlety of his words and humor, Prine counts among his greatest strengths his excellent live presence—as evidenced by 2010’s In Person & On Stage live recording. His revealing 2011 album, The Singing Mailman Delivers, is something of a lost album, and was recorded in 1970 when Prine was working for the U.S. Postal Service in Chicago.
