Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Following the thrashing jazz-punk band The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion has been difficult for the past decade. It’s hardly been the busiest set of years for the trio—2004’s Damage was its last set of new tunes—and it didn’t help matters when the band started performing under a shorter, more democratic moniker. (Jon Spencer was also busy with his side project, Heavy Trash.) Fast-forward to 2011, and Spencer’s back fronting his most popular band. The group has been celebrating its history lately via Shout! Factory’s re-releases of previously out-of-print albums like 1996’s Now I Got Worry and 1997’s Controversial Negro, as well as a best-of compilation aptly titled Dirty Shirt Rock ’N’ Roll: The First Ten Years.
