Journey
Journey has found a way to keep the gravy train rolling without the presence of Steve Perry. Though Perry’s girly wailing defined the schmaltzy appeal of Journey’s music back in the day, his departure hasn’t doomed his former bandmates to obscurity. They may not be tearing up the charts like they did in the olden days, but a post-Perry Journey still maintains a hearty audience and an occasional spot among Billboard’s top 20 albums. Arnel Pineda, Perry replacement No. 2 (who joined after Steve Augeri split in ’06), is essentially a Perry-lite vocalist, but at least today’s fans get to experience “Don’t Stop Believin’” performed live. Original lead guitarist Neal Schon and bassist Ross Valory are still around, so there is at least some authenticity behind Pineda’s imitation.
