Kaki King has transformed herself from a guitar virtuoso into an indie-rock guitar virtuoso, and along the way she’s added vocals and extra instrumentation to her acrobatic compositions. That means King’s been bringing out a band when she wants to properly represent songs from 2006’s …Until We Felt Red, 2008’s Dreaming Of Revenge, and last year’s emotionally dense Junior. While the full-bodied approach to her dreamy, moody songs leaves little to be desired, the material she plays alone is equally thrilling, with elaborate soundscapes built up via the tapping, slapping, and looping of her acoustic guitar. On this go around, labeled The Traveling Guitar Freak Show, King’s even bringing along a massive and insane-looking dual-necked harp guitar. For noodle nerds, just looking at that thing could be well worth the ticket price.
