A.V. Club: Best of the Decade

Artist Kanye West

  • Paul Kane

With the last year's 808s & Heartbreak, Kanye West attempted to push his first piece of true “art” on the public: a sparse and altogether moody album that barely rings familiar from the man who built an empire reworking florid soul samples. Lost in a sea of vocoder, the record is meant to be “introspective” and “thoughtful,” though a lack of pulse seems to be its most defining aspect.
