Karl Paloucek

With time spent as a member of both underground industrial legends Fuckface and Boy Dirt Car, you would think that Chicago-via-Milwaukee resident Karl Paloucek’s solo material would be more raucous and pummeling. Instead, Paloucek approaches industrial percussion from a more studied angle. Whirring sewing machines, ticks from a slide projector, and soft scrapings along thin pieces of sheet metal transition seamlessly into lush pianos and field recordings of subway stations, producing works that revel in details and textures instead of the bombast of his former years. One can only imagine how these details will play out in a setting like Frank’s Power Plant, but considering Paloucek’s formidable technical abilities, the night is bound to be something memorable.
