Kristoff Krane
As a hyper-literate and very technical MC, it can be hard to stand out in a Twin Cities hip-hop scene that always seems to be overflowing with similarly minded artists. Kristoff Krane managed to by aligning himself with standouts like the late Eyedea, working tirelessly at his writing—and even parlaying it into a book of poems and a teaching job—and by staying prolific, releasing two full-length albums in 2010, Hunting For Father and Picking Flowers Next To Roadkill. Hunting particularly eschews traditional hip-hop production for skittering electro-inspired beats (“Resourcenter”), light-rock piano and drum kits (“My Coffin”), and quirky percussion and softly strummed acoustic guitar on “Inside Out,” which does well to showcase Krane’s sincere, introspective storytelling.
