Lake could be your friends. They have the approachable, familial posture of a band comprised of a few BFFs goofing off together and making sunny, hand-clappy yet sigh-laden bedroom recordings. On the band’s third full-length, the recently released Giving And Receiving, the Olympian (in the Washington sense) group hit its stride. The goofing around segues into larger choral compositions, horn sections, and a more complex blending of organic and electro. This new, more polished and produced style hasn’t made the band robotic, though—the sweeping boy-girl harmonies and sleepy vocals that made it so enchanting in the first place are still there in spades.
