Laurie Anderson

A performance artist known to pull dance, spoken word, and multimedia elements into sweeping whooshes of musical theater, Laurie Anderson is also versed as a plain old storyteller with an ear bent toward politics, religion, and the mundane details of everyday life. Her work has been synonymous with multimedia arrangements since the ’70s, and a recent piece drew (presumably from a unorthodox angle) on influences like Tuvan throat-singing, jazz improvisation, and traditional Chinese music. Her latest work, Delusion, is a series of short mystery plays that alternates between the mundane and the mythic.
