Leopold And His Fiction
At this point, do the countless blues-dabblers that Jack White has inspired consider the pale genius more of a curse than a blessing to 21st-century garage rock? It's possible that Leopold And His Fiction frontman Daniel James has never heard a lick of White Blood Cells, but as long he and White share a birthplace, an obsession with analog sounds, and a tendency to nod toward vintage Bob Dylan and early Led Zeppelin, then their music will continue to be linked. Of course, James' decision to split Detroit for the West Coast (as opposed to White's expatriation to Nashville) has lent Leopold a far more relaxed vibe, and recent track "Golden Friends" muddies leftover '60s mysticism with the usual Motor City muck.
