Lez Zeppelin

Lez Zeppelin

As the name suggests, Lez Zeppelin is a group of four women who play Led Zeppelin songs while doing a pretty impressive onstage impression of the band’s swagger. Lez changed out three of its members—all but founder Steph Paynes—for new players in 2009 in an attempt to keep the act fresh, given that most of the band’s material is in its 40s and aging. Unlike most cover acts, the band has released two studio albums, 2007’s Lez Zeppelin and Lez Zeppelin I in 2010. Most tribute bands are both honorable and horrific enterprises in any context, but the women in Lez Zep are much better at doing their forebears justice than they even need to be.
