HOLIDAY SALE AT THE ONION STORE

Artist Life During Wartime

Life During Wartime popped up in 2002 after DJs Bald E. (Chris Baronner) and Chess “Mother” Hubbard found themselves becoming increasingly frustrated with more-jaded-than-thou scene kids. The duo landed a regular monthly residency at The Hideout, and the show has been one of the city’s more popular dance nights ever since. Though the night purports to infuse political awareness into dance music, it’s a little questionable as to whether that’s happening. It’s not like there are groups collecting money or tabling or anything. Maybe people are trying to just dance themselves into voting, or maybe Baronner and Hubbard are really taking that whole “personal is political” thing to heart. Either way, it’s a good time, so maybe it doesn’t matter so much, right?
