Living Colour
In a brief, roman-candle burn, funk-metal upstarts Living Colour crammed a lifetime of success into a few short years, including a hit album (1988’s Vivid), four Grammys, a memorable Saturday Night Live performance, and a tour opening for—of all the rock musicians’ wet dreams—The Rolling Stones. Unfortunately, propulsion wasn’t enough to keep it together, and Living Colour splintered in the grunge-dominated ’90s, unsure where its seamless but unusual mix of jazz-inflected thrash fit in. After several dark years—including a best-forgotten stint on VH1 for singer Corey Glover—the group reunited in 2000, sounding fully revitalized on 2003’s surprisingly vital Collideoscope. Living Colour is now touring behind the new The Chair In The Doorway, but chances are still good it'll play “Cult Of Personality.”
