Lookbook
Twin Cities vocalist Maggie Morrison has a way of making electronic-based tunes seethe with human aches and worries. That's a key strength of her band Digitata, as well as Lookbook, a duo that pairs her singing with restless, synth-laced beats from Grant Cutler. Lookbook recently dropped its latest record, Wild At Heart, an expertly conceived collection of ’80s heartbreak jams that begs for (and earns) comparisons to classic boy-girl groups like Yaz and Human League. Cutler's production has some gentle glitter on it, and Morrison pushes her vocals into bold, melodic strokes, but Lookbook's never in danger of getting too cuddly: These sound like tunes that actually cost the pair some sleep.
