Los Lobos

After more than 35 years together, East Side L.A. band Los Lobos still knows how to mix Mexican roots with rough rock, and guitarist Cesar Rosas remains a truly spectacular blues soloist. The band’s excellent 2006 album, The Town And The City, is a ruminative song cycle about immigration and lives lived across borders, all delivered within rangy musical backdrops that peer back in the experimental direction of Los Lobos favorites such as Colossal Head. In 2009, the band threw a curveball with Los Lobos Goes Disney, a collection of covers from animated musicals like Toy Story andThe Jungle Book, but returned to grittier, more familiar blues-rock territory with 2010’s Tin Can Trust. Later this year Los Lobos will put out a deluxe re-issue of 1992’s Kiko, an album many critics consider to be the group’s best.
