A.V. Club: Best of the Decade

Artist Lucha Libre

If there's a place for flashy, club-sweating, mildly threatening macho attitude in Madison hip-hop, then local group Lucha Libre can pretty much have it. If the sound's different from most local rappers', then so is the background: While some of the edge comes from the group's ties to Milwaukee, Lucha Libre's Latin heritage is a big influence on the reggaeton-informed beats, and also shows through in the occasional Spanish-language verse. Da Ricanstrukta, Mic Virus, NV 1, sometimes joined by DJ Pain 1, can also be a pretty fun crew onstage, with a cocky swagger that's backed up by energetic rhymes.
