Lynda Barry

With a life that is arguably as quirky as her cartoons, Lynda Barry has been working in the world of cartoons for three decades. She’s probably best known as the creator of the Ernie Pook’s Comeek comic strip and the spastic, lovable character of Marlys, but her two most recent books, What It Is and Picture This, are almost Highlights magazine-esque explorations of the roots of creativity—part graphic memoir, part exercise book, part doodle pad. Barry firmly believes that anyone can write and anyone can draw—and that the need to write, draw, or otherwise create is a central part of being human, and we neglect it at our sanity’s peril.
