Manic Street Preachers
Some bands, like people, are drawn to drama, and the Manic Street Preachers' storied career is certainly testament to this: Rhythm guitarist and co-lyricist Richey Edwards mysteriously disappeared in 1995, but even before that he had made headlines with his self-destructive behavior—carving “4 REAL” into his arm to prove the act’s sincerity, for example—and onstage antics. And though the other Preachers were undoubtedly the musical talents, crafting punky alt-rock behind his lyrics, it was Edwards’ ultimate vision that pushed the group to critical acclaim. The band continued on after his disappearance, but its newest, Journal For Plague Lovers pays a last homage to their enigmatic fourth member: Every track features lyrics left behind by Edwards.
