Artist Mar Caribe

With influences from Calexico to Argentinean street musicians and everyone in between, Mar Caribe have kind of a weird thing going. They describe it as “Ennio Morricone with a fondness for tango,” but really the band’s charm centers around the banjo work of Tom McGettrick. Almost lyrical in its pluck, that banjo really swings when combined with the rest of the group’s fluid lineup, generally consisting of at least brass, stand-up bass, swishy drums, and woozy clarinet. That charming looseness comes through in the band’s new record, The Law. With track titles like “Brazilian Porn Stars” and “Piranha’s Got Me Willie!” it’s apparent that this band is having just as much fun as their music would suggest.
