Margot And The Nuclear So And So's

Despite Margot And The Nuclear So And So’s stage-crowding pile of keys, horns, strings, and harmonies, leader Richard Edwards’ songs would just as soon turn inward, budding from melancholic tales that come off as part-earnest, part-fantasy. On the fourth Margot album, Buzzard, Edwards finds his spine, kicking harder and indulging a heretofore unseen bluesy side, while still retaining the baroque cutesiness of past records on songs like “Tiny Vampire Robot” and “My Baby (Cares For The Animals).” Edwards reconfigured much of the band’s lineup since Buzzard, which is probably why the guitars behind his retiring vocals on “Prozac Rock,” the lead single from this year's Rot Gut Domestic, have such a restored roar.
