Martha Reeves & The Vandellas
The ’60s Motown girl-group legends Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, responsible for Detroit classic hits like “Dancing In The Street,” and “Heat Wave” among countless others, are everything you could want in an R&B ensemble. Rolling Stonenamed the hit-heavy and strong, tested live performers No. 96 in its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time. “Dancing In The Street” persists as one of the most covered pop songs in history, and that’s with agreeing to ignore the 1985 Bowie/Mick Jagger debacle. Reeves and her crew are a big deal. More than that though, Martha Reeves, who served as a councilwoman for the city of Detroit from 2005-2009, represents a musician from the gilded age of pop music who still performs without slowing down.
