Mayor Daley
Maybe the band named itself for a funny juxtaposition with its music. Or maybe the music is actually a metaphor for the way the band sees the politician or politicians of the same name. Regardless, if the music of Mayor Daley is any indication of how the group’s members would govern Chicago, it shows the city would be in chaos. The instrumentals are sludgy and noisy, and the vocals are shrieky and animalistic, which, at times, is oddly reminiscent of Yoko Ono. In particular, Daley’s “Choices” is a 10-minute epic that leads listeners through a disconcerted journey of irregular tempos; sinister chanting; and buzzing, air-raid siren sounding guitars. One thing is certain: Mayor Daley is not for the faint of heart.
