Melissa Auf Der Maur

Nothing lasts forever, and Melissa Auf Der Maur knows this. The bassist cut her teeth in the mainstream with Hole and Smashing Pumpkins—two groups, that, while still around, hardly resemble anything like they were in their respective heydays. Auf Der Maur is also no stranger to going solo, with 2004's Auf Der Maur, but it seems as though she is still working through the demons of her past. The new Out Of Our Minds sounds quite noticeably dated—maybe intentionally so. Then again, a bassist is a bit of an odd focal point for a band, and while that is interesting, moody, sweeping falsettos, frantic bass lines, and predictable melodies aren't—especially on track after track.
