Memoryhouse

If you find yourself dozing off while listening to Ontario duo Memoryhouse, don’t be alarmed; that’s the point. Evan Abeele and Denise Nouvion play the type of music that gets into your head and haunts your dreams—totally in a good way, though. In its favorable review, Pitchfork described the music as “somber” and “ethereal dream-pop”—the highest of indie compliments. Nouvion’s drifting vocals intrigue rather than bore, and Abeele provides melodies distantly related to white noise. The band’s Sub Pop debut, The Slideshow Effect, stays true to its drowsiness-suggesting title and populates itself with smooth, shimmering songs like “Walk With Me.”
