Miike Snow
As Miike Snow, the trio of Andrew Wyatt (co-writer of Bruno Mars’ “Grenade”) and Stockholm-based super-producers Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg (writers of Britney Spears’ “Toxic”) make experimental pop, which to say it writes hook-laden songs and then promptly deconstructs them. Some of the tracks from Miike Snow’s 2009 self-titled debut sound straight from the discotheque, but many others fracture into something far more ambient and unsettling. Those left turns might unnerve, but they also create a rich palette for remixes from top-notch producers like Mark Ronson. The group recently released a new album, Happy To You. While it doesn’t deliver anything like the breakout single “Animal,” it’s a much more adventurous and interesting album than one may expect from the mainstream pop tunesmiths.
