Mike Doughty

Mike Doughty is a veteran alt-rocker whose work with Soul Coughing in the late ’90s gave way to a major-label deal, a heroin addiction (that he later kicked), a subsequent major-label body slam, and eventually a flourishing career under his own name. As a solo player, Doughty makes upbeat folk that’s occasionally cloying—he growls, sing-talks, and sometimes busts out the hand drums—but more often is redemptive and winning. The Brooklyn-based Doughty appears here behind a new memoir, The Book Of Drugs, which details his battles with both the music industry and, well, drugs.
