Comedian Mike Epps could tell a million half-baked jokes in his life, and he'd still end up in the plus column for his 90-second monologue in Next Friday, wherein he explains to Ice Cube how he could be so frightened by a woman named Baby D. Fortunately, Epps doesn't have to rely on that golden moment: He's a gifted stand-up—appearing in several episodes of the long-standing Def Comedy Jam series—who fares better alone onstage than he does in dumbed-down ensembles (see also: How High, All About The Benjamins, The Honeymooners, The Hangover, and so on). 2009’s live concert DVD Under Rated & Never Faded: Live From Detroit! features a Doug E. Fresh cameo in addition to Epps' usual acerbic wit, which should atone for any number of cinematic sins.
