Miniature Tigers
Creativity can be forced out of the human body by a battering ram of misery, torturous childhoods, and mortifying high school experiences—just ask Miniature Tigers frontman Charlie Brand. A youngish Brand suffered from a pot-induced lethargy, one that led him to drop out of high school, gain weight, and become a social pariah. Luckily, it also led to the creation of Miniature Tigers’ contemporary sound: pure ’60s pop blended with the electronic irresistibility of The Postal Service. “Gold Skull,” from 2010’s Fortress, continues down that path, this time adding electronic squiggles that sound like they were generated by an 8-bit Nintendo. Neon Indian is behind that track, but the rest of the album was produced by The Morning Benders’ Chris Chu.
