Misfits
Misfits stuck to their own path during their ’80s heyday, playing horrific yet catchy punk rock heavy on the B-movie references and face paint. With the Misfits’ original leader, Glenn Danzig, long out of the picture due to a lawsuit, remaining member Jerry Only—along with former Black Flag guitarist Dez Cadena and drummer Eric Arce, who played with Murphy’s Law—have not-so-effectively zombified the band’s corpse. With Only taking over lead vocal duties, the absence of a compelling, Danzig-like frontman is palpable, but it’s almost worth enduring, just to hear Cadena lead the band through an obligatory handful of Flag classics. The current incarnation has a brand-new album, The Devil’s Rain, the band’s first since 2003.
